My current sub is an ancient velodyne VA which is a 12″ front firing woofer facing forward and a 15″ down firing passive radiator; my graphs are showing -3db around 28 Hz from 75 db REW test sweep. Is the passive radiator design considered sealed? I prolly should have got the F15HP if I had realized that. But hey, your shipment has been through Austin, Memphis, Knoxvile and Nashville on its way to Virginia tomorrow so it may be too late for that thought process. I hope OP comes back soon or I’m really thread jacking here. Suppose it is on topic though. Also note the 12″ woofer on the velodyne was replaced about 4 years ago with whatever woofer velodyne recommended at the time which was not the same as the original.
can i run two batteries with my stock alternator?
How many RMS watts are they on each channel. Normally 4-channel amps only put out between each channel. So you need to find the RMS wattage of each terminal and the Ohms.
Now there are good quality multi amps in one unit that can deliver the power to a system and get either a powered sub or a amp to power the sub. Subs can suck up a lot of power! With receivers.
I feel this information will be important to the owners of these superb amplifiers. There’s very little editing: I want to call attention to both you and owners of the Canary CA , a moderately inexpensive vis a vis very expensive premium B tubes way to kick up the performance of these amps. Having just brought another pair of them into my showroom, I decided to leave the stock Electro Harmonix B as is. For less money than a pair of KR B’s these amps take 2 pair each keep in mind , the changes were breathtaking.
Transients, soundstage, and articulation were noticeably improved. I thought your readers might be interested to know that, although these amps benefits from premium B tubes, these changes are a great cost effective compromise. Its power rating appears “modest” 22 watts, 90 watts peak , and it does not break any new sonic grounds, but the “good news” is that this amplifier can virtually equal most amplifiers we know of in most areas of music reproduction.
This means that it has much of the pure, natural, immediate and liquid qualities of the finest of the ultra low-power under 10 watt single-ended amplifiers, while still sounding as “gutsy”, dynamic, and controlled as many more powerfully rated amps. Despite the standard “BS” regularly written in audio magazines, exceedingly few other amplifier have ever been able to legitimately make this claim in the past.
It is exceptionally well built and it is also ultra-quiet during operation. Now for the “negatives”:

Whether it’s an installation that might not have gone as planned, or a random problem that comes out of nowhere. Here is a list of your common car stereo problems, symptoms and solutions to help get your stereo up and running! Many Jeeps and Chevrolet systems have a data signal wire that carries a very low voltage signal that tells the OEM Head Unit when to turn on, however; it is not compatible with aftermarket units. If you have a voltage meter or a test light, test the ground black , constant 12v yellow , and accessory 12v red wires to make see if you have the correct voltage in the correct wires, as well as a good ground.
Constant will always be 12v, whether or not your car is on. Make sure to use your ground, as well as another ground like the frame or body of the car while testing your constant and accessory to test that you have a good ground. If you find that one of your power wires or ground wires are not correct, check your vehicle wire diagram and make sure you have the correct corresponding power and ground wires.
After finding the location of the fuse, pull it and make sure that the leads are not corroded and that the fuse has not been broken or popped. Most aftermarket amplifiers have a protection from low and high voltage. Vice versa, if your battery is low and the amplifier is not receiving a constant 12v, it will enter protection mode. Amplifiers will also enter protection mode if there is a short somewhere. If you have a signal RCA wire that is shorting out, this could be your problem so check to see if your RCAs are in-tact and not shorted.

Can anyone recommend any car audiophiles I can pester for w RMS amp suggestions? Just try to buy one from a reputable manufacturer, so when they say ” W RMS” it’s hopefully true. The following is the most basic system. It involves a head unit HU and 2 pairs of speakers which are driven by the head unit’s internal amplifier. You can see that the battery terminal of the HU is connected to a constant source of power the battery with an inline fuse. The accessory wire for the HU is connected to a power source which only has power when the ignition switch is in the ‘on’ or ‘acc’ positions.
The battery and accessory connections will not be shown in the following diagrams but will be the same for all of the systems. The lines point to the speakers but the exact connection isn’t shown. The colored speaker wires from the HU are going to be connected to the positive speaker terminal of the speaker. The black or darker speaker wire will be connected to the negative speaker terminal.
Of course, this is just a generic type of diagram and you should consult the wiring diagram which was supplied with the HU. Using the HU’s internal amplifier and an external amplifier: In this diagram, you see that the front speakers are being driven from the HU’s internal amplifier and a pair of rear speakers are being powered by an external amplifier. This type of system has very little chance of sounding good. If the amplifier is being used because more volume is desired and the front and rear speakers are roughly equivalent in efficiency then the front speaker’s amplifier will probably be driven into clipping well before the external amplifier reaches clipping.

But what the manufacturer is not showing you is the bandwidth vs. Quality of bass and how well it integrates into a system is paramount. If I have to sacrifice a bit of extension and SPL to achieve this, so be it. The Set-Up I left my EP towards the left front corner behind my couch as it has been for the past 3 years. I placed one EP on top of it and the other EP diagonally located towards the back right of the room.

Podcasting , Technology Any system is only as good as the weakest link in the chain and audio systems are certainly no exception to the rule. Attaching speakers to your Hi-Fi system usually only requires a few cables. These potential problems are easy to spot with a few simple tests and luckily the corresponding remedies are equally simple. Left and Right Tests In the grand scale of things, getting your left and right speakers mixed up is not a major problem.
Record producers and mix engineers spend weeks mixing and producing an album and as part of the process they will decide where in the mix to place certain instruments. Then try the following two fairly self explanatory tests on your music system. You will need to check the wiring of your system, rewiring where necessary and then repeat the two tests to make sure that both channels are working and in the correct order.
The following diagram shows how to wire your speakers to your amplifier: When you listen to the following test, place your head as centrally as you can between your two speakers; you should hear Winnie coming from the dead centre of your speakers. In this case you are hearing equal amounts of Winnie from both speakers. If it does, ensure that the balance control is in the centre position.
If after checking the balance control, things still sounds one sided, you may have a more fundamental problem with your system that requires investigation or professional attention.
Trying to decide: 2 8″ subs vs 1 10″ sub
The speaker is an open-baffle loudspeaker, a configuration that has been gaining popularity in DIY circles in recent years. The emphasis in the tutorial is intended to be on the use of the miniDSP, and not so much on the speaker itself. So I hope that you will find the tutorial useful even if you are using the miniDSP for a more conventional boxed 3-way or 4-way loudspeaker. This article is Part 1 of the full tutorial.
Re: Two amps connected to same speakers Actually, it may be possible to keep your Yamaha and integrate a second amp into the system fairly easily. I did a google searh on your reciever and the one review that I read indicated that the Yamaha has pre-outs for adding a second and third zone.
Existing amp main panel with sub panel both full in the basement. New addition and kitchen being built. They want a amp panel in the pantry, the basement was recently flooded. Said no can do. Came up with this scenario, amp meter and riser , amp main lug 4 ckt 3r box below meter. Never done anything like this , this what they want in case of future flooding, the idea is to shut off basement power but leave upstairs power on. Just get it all out of here.
